Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is increasing. If diabetes mellitus is not treated immediately it will cause a negative impact on the sufferer. The impact that can occur in diabetics is divided into two, namely short-term consisting of pneumonia infection or injury to the legs, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, and long-term effects on the eyes, skin, bones, legs, heart, kidneys. Diabetes management is done by providing health education by using an android-based smartphone as a tool in providing health education. The purpose of this study was to look at the effect of health education based on android applications on patient knowledge about care of type 2 diabetes mellitus wounds. This type of research is a quantitative pre-experimental study using one group pretest-posttest design. The research sample of 20 respondents was taken by purposive sampling technique. Marginal homogeneity test results obtained significant p-value = 0.001 (<0.05), meaning that there is a significant difference between pre-test knowledge and post-test knowledge after intervention. Comprehensive health education is very much needed to increase the knowledge of sufferers and sufferers' families. Application on android smartphone as a means to facilitate patients in patient knowledge about wound care.
