Abstract

The study aimed to describe the postcolonial aspects of the novel This Earth of Mankind by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. The postcolonial aspects contained in the novel This Earth of Mankind by Pramoedya Ananta Toer were analyzed based on the postcolonial studies view from the direct or indirect speech of the novel's character conversation. The method that used in this research was a descriptive method. The data source in this study was Pramoedya Ananta Toer's, This Earth of Mankind. Data analysis techniques were based on postcolonial approaches. The results showed that in the novel This Earth of Mankind by Pramoedya Ananta Toer there were postcolonial aspects. All aspects of postcolonial were found in this novel. The postcolonial aspects were found, i.e. historical aspects, ideological aspects, aspects of power, and gender aspects. The historical aspect consists of three parts, namely (1) The subordination of the Invaders, (2) The history as witnesses of colonialism, and (3) the historical heap that does not. The ideological aspect is divided into three parts, namely (1) Ideology as the form of hybridity space (2) ideology as a mimicry thought that inflicts resistance, and (3) a rationalistic ideology. The aspect of power consists of 3 parts, namely (1) The Hegemony of the invaders as the Strongest law, (2) The hegemony of the invaders that permeated strong with the mechanisms governing and controlling colonized, (3) The hegemony of upper and lower class opposition. The gender aspect consists of five parts, namely (1) gender injustices to the emergence of female marginalization, (2) Subordination of women, (3) female stereotypes, (4) Violence against women, and (5) the dual workload of women.
