Abstract

The Dimethyl Carbonate plant is planned to be located in the Bontang City area, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. This plant covers an area of ​​5 hectares with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year. The manufacturing process of Dimethyl carbonate is carried out by reacting methanol and urea with the help of a samarium nitrate catalyst which takes place in the Bubble column reactor type reactor at a temperature of 185oC and a pressure of 20 bar with the following reaction CO(NH2)2 + CH3OH NH2COOCH3 + NH3 NH2COOCH3 + CH3OH CH3OCOOCH3 + NH3 After the stage of separating Dimethyl carbonate from the mixture, Dimethyl carboonate (liquid) is obtained with a purity of 99.00% wt. This factory is a company in the form of a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organization system, which is led by a managing director with 140 employees. Based on the results of an economic analysis, the Dimethyl carbonate plant was declared feasible to be established with the following economic analysis: 1) Proceeds from sales per year = US $ 1,178,309,613.74 2) Annual production costs = US $ 1,031,818,431.11 3) Net profit per year = US $ 102,543,827.85 4) Pay Out Time = 2.71 years 5) Rate of Return on Investment = 35% 6) Break Even Point = 37.5849% 7) Service Life = 11 years Keywords: Dimethyl carbonate, Urea Tranesterification, samarium nitrate
