Abstract

Seaweed Eucheuma cottonii (Kappaphycus alvarezii) is one of the commodities that have high economic value. Cultivation techniques can be done in several ways, among them are by using floating rafts and long line. The aim of this research is to know the effect of growth rate of seaweed ‘E. cottonii (K. alvarezii)’ with different weight and seed 50 gr, 100 gr, and 150 gr with floating raft and long line method. This research was conducted in August – October 2017 in gulf of Hurun, at Lampung Province. Methods of data analysis using a complete randomized design and continued with One way Anovatest analysis using SPSS 16.0 software. Measurement of growth is done once a week for 42 days. Water parameters measured include DO, salinity, pH, brightness, nitrate, phosphate, temperature, and current velocity. The results showed that the weight of 50 gr was better for the growth rate of seaweed ‘E. cottonii (K. alvarezii)’ and the growth rate of seaweed using floating raft method is better than long line method.
