Abstract

Background: acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a malignancy in the bone marrow characterized by immature white blood cell proliferation which can develop rapidly if not treated and fatal in a few months. The main treatment used is chemotherapy. Chemotherapy often causes side effects in patients, especially nausea, vomiting with varying degrees. Nausea effects and can be overcome by using acupressure at points P6 and ST36. Objective: thisscientific work aims to describe nursing care in children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and apply acupressure in the treatment of nausea and vomiting with nutrition nursing. Method: descriptive qualitative by discussing case studies of 3 pediatric patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) originating from the Selincah Room 2, which is the inpatient ward of non-infectious children at RSUP Dr.Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Results: a description of nursing problems in this case study, namely ineffective airway clearance, ineffective peripheral perfusion, nutritional deficits, acute pain, hyperthermia, and sleep disturbance. There are many interventions and implementations that can be applied to children with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), one of which is to overcome nausea and vomiting in nursing problems of nutritional deficits. Some implementations that can be implemented include involving the detection and intolerance of food, monitoring food intake, allowing oral hygiene before eating, collaborating drug administration before meals, and managing nausea and disposingby doing acupressure at points P6 and ST36. Conclusion: Of the six nursing diagnoses that were established, the nursing problem that became the main problem in three patients under management was a nutritional deficit due to nausea and vomiting. Nursing implications that can be applied are acupressure points P6 and ST36 as treatment of nausea and vomiting in patients with nursing problems of nutritional deficits.
