Abstract

Dye Sensitized Solar Cell is third generation solar cells that utilize organic material as a photon absorbent in sunlight. Performance of DSSC is determined by many factors, one of which is dye sensitizer. Dye is obtained from the extraction of water hyacinth chlorophyll through the method Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction (UAE). Extraction by the UAE method increases the chlorophyll content as the main ingredient in dye. Dye with high chlorophyll content is able to convert light energy into an electric current so that it can improve DSSC performance. This research aimed to determine the electrical performance of Dye Sensitized Solar Cell with several extraction treatments of time using method Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction. This research was conducted in November 2019 until January 2020, at the Electrification Energy Laboratory and Agricultural Product Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This research consists of three stages including: the preparation and sequencing of DSSC; testing and processing of DSSC data. The TCO glass used as the second DSSC electrode in this study has a resistance between 0.8 kΩ to 14.9 kΩ. DSSC was tested with variations in the extraction time of the UAE method, namely: 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 minutes. The temperature and frequency of the device are set at a specific point that is 35oC and 40 kHz. The parameters observed include: calculation of chlorophyll content with absorbance data at 649 nm and 665 nm using the formulas Wintermans and De Motz, current and voltage, power, fill factor and DSSC efficiency. The highest chlorophyll content was also found in sample 8 with the UAE method extraction for 45 minutes namely 1.7507 mg/L chlorophyll a, 4.793 mg/L chlorophyll b, with the total amount being 6.5335 mg/L total chlorophyll. The highest value of the electrical characterization was obtained from DSSC VIII (sample 8) namely Voc: 679 mV, Isc: 0.0471 mA, Imax: 0.0289 mA, Vmax: 457 mV, Poutput: 13.2651 mW, FF: 0.4148 and Efficiency: 8.26%.
