Abstract

Indonesian Traditional Cloth is one of the diverse cultural heritage and has an implied meaning of folklore related to culture in its style/motif. Each region has its characteristics, as well as Palembang Traditional Cloth which must be preserved amid the rapid development of science and technology and globalization. This conservation effort is supported by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, by issuing the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 10 of 2014 concerning guidelines for the preservation of traditions which contain conservation activities covering 3 aspects, namely the use, protection, and development of objects of tradition preservation. Lately, the City Government of Palembang has been carrying out a program of preserving tradition but has been done separately. It is hoped that this Traditional Cloth Center can accommodate the Palembang Traditional Cloth preservation activities which are approved by the Republic of Indonesia's Minister of Education and Culture Regulation No. 10 of 2014. Supporting, conservation activities can be organized well. The cape motif which has philosophical value is welcoming and friendly to understand the architectural characteristics of the building in the design at the center of the chosen site which is famous as a sports area. The shape of the building mass is the result of the transformation of the cape geometry motif which has 4 axes, and the meaning of "welcome" is implemented in the mass structure of the building that adapts to the open hand formation. Besides that means "friendly" is applied to the zoning division of user circulation on the site and the concept of retail space or fabric gallery that is designed to be more interactive and creative. For sturdy buildings using a sturdy steel frame system with a concrete pillar foundation so that the building is more stable considering the footprint uses a heap swamp.
