Abstract

This study is entitled "The Economic Development of Songket Weaving Crafters in Kelurahan 13 Ulu, District of Seberang Ulu II Palembang in 2008-2018 (Contribution of Material in the Sumatran Local Wisdom Course). This research was conducted with the aim to find out how the development of the songket weaving crafters community and how it affected the daily life of the 13 Ulu Kelurahan community from 2008-2019. The research was conducted in September 2019 to December 2019 using historical methods with data collection techniques through literature study and in-depth interviews with several craftsmen, community leaders, and various related parties, while the approach used was economic, sociological, and geographic approaches. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the economy of the songket weaving crafters community is highly developed every year. The social life that occurs in Kelurahan 13 Ulu is intertwined between craftsmen, craftsmen with industrial home owners and craftsmen with the government. Meanwhile the procedures, tools, and materials used in the production of songket weaving are still traditional and handed down. In the range of 2008 to 2018 there was a significant development in the sale and production of songket weaving crafts every year. This is proven by the increasing interest of the community to become songket crafters and artisans feel very economically helped, because it increases family income.
