Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine and evaluate the effect of compost and vermicompost on pH, P Soil and Plant also growth of red curly lettuce. Swampy swamp land usually cannot be planted during the flood season, one way to be utilized is planting red curly lettuce in a floating farming system with compost and vermicompost treatment. Compost is an organic fertilizer produced from plant materials or organic waste materials. Vermicompost is fertilizer from the composting of organic waste with the help of earthworms. This research was conducted in a floating raft in a floating farm experiment and the Laboratory of Chemistry, Biology and Soil Fertility, Soil Department of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University in September to December 2019. This study used a Factorial Randomized Design, consisting of 2 factors, the first factor being vermicompost which consists of 4 levels namely, V0 (0 g plant-1), V1 (250 g plant-1), V2 (500 g plant-1), V3 (750 g plant-1) and the second factor is compost consisting of 2 the levels are K1 (250 g plant-1) and K2 (500 g plant-1). The results showed that compost significantly affected plant growth both height and number of leaves, the best dose of compost was K1, 250 g plant-1. Whereas Vermicompost with a dose of 500 g plant-1 affects the pH and soil P. Compost, vermicompost and the interaction of the two have no effect on P red curly lettuce plants.
