Abstract

The density of housing in a kampung kota has become a common problem in the city of Palembang, South Sumatra. In fact, the kampung kota are located right at the riverside of Musi River. Therefore, we need a plan that can overcome the problems of slums that meet the needs of the residential and in accordance with the conditions of wetlands houses. In the kampung kota there are many houses that are also function as home industry so that they require building designs with multiple functions of the residential and home industries. The concept of vertical living was designed which focuses all the kampung kota resident activities to multi-storey building. Vertical housing develop green areas and communal areas on each floor of the building, so there will be spacious communal space for the resident. Communal spaces will maintain the social life in the kampung kota. The vertical building design makes it easier to divide zoning of the residential, home industries, and communal areas. The design provides more flexibility for the resident to get around within the site. Areas on tidal land are used as open spaces to support the home industries as drying area, culinary, and community activity. To maintain the sustainability of the riverside ecosystems, each residential unit designed with a special wetlands waste disposal system. The building stands on panggung structure by using an organic façade material that reinforces the characteristics of the village and riverfront building.
