Abstract

This study aims to be able to understand and analyze the segregation of boarding places for students from Bangka Belitung in the Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency. The theory used is Max Weber's Theory of Social Action. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method, where the data collected is generally qualitative and presented in a descriptive manner. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The source of the data used is primary data obtained from the research location, in the form of interviews with research informants, which is further supported by secondary data related to the segregation of boarding houses for Sriwijaya University students from Bangka Belitung. The results of the study are Bangka Belitung students segregated in the Persada Complex in Indralaya Indah Village. Factors underlying the segregation are the socialization and recommendations of the closest people, the kinship and atmosphere of Bangka Belitung in the overseas land, easy communication, and reciprocity at older siblings. The implications of this segregation fall into the first two categories of positive implications which include the full physical and psychological needs, the widening of relations between districts and information exchange across districts in Bangka Belitung, and being active in regional organizations. The negative implications namely the narrow scope of friendship and the discrimination of minorities.
