Abstract

The seed of kebiul (Caesalpinia bondul (L.) Roxb.) contains flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, steroids and triterpenoids. The seeds of the kebiul have been studied to have antioxidant activity that research can potentially be anti-inflammatory. In this research, anti-inflammatory activity of seed kebiul extract using rat paw edema method was induced by carrageenan. The ethanol extract, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane seed of kebiul were divided into 3 dose groups, 100, 200, dan 400 mg/kgBW. For comparison, negative control of Sodium CMC and positive control of Na diclofenac 0,9 mg/200 g BW. Male males 33 tails were divided into 11 groups (1 negative control group, 1 positive control group and 9 treatment groups). The test was performed by measuring the volume of rat foot edema using a pletismometer. The test results showed a mean percent inhibition of ethanol extract, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane respectively 53,50%; 35,84%; and 33,04%. This suggests that ethanol extract has the best inhibitory inflammatory activity compared to ethyl acetate and n-hexane extracts. Ethyl acetate extract, n-hexane, and ethanol dose 400 mg/kgBB has an anti-inflammatory effect that is almost equivalent to diclofenac Na but anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract dose 400 mg/kgBB higher than diclofenac Na. The ED50 value of ethanol extract of seed of kebiul is 331,35 mg/kgBW.
