Abstract

PT. Buana Eltra is a coal mining company that uses the open pit mining method. One factor that can disrupt mining activities is the water factor, so an ideal drainage system is needed to prevent water from entering the mining area. Drainage system used at PT. Buana Eltra is mine dewatering, where sump A in the middle of the pit. If the intensity of rain is high, water will stagnate in the work area resulting in sump A often overload. For the reason, it is necessary to re-design dimensions of sump and pump to overcome at sump A. The purpose of this study is to determine the total incoming water discharge, planning the optimal sump dimension, and planning the number and hours of sump work on sump A at PT. Buana Eltra. The research was conducted by calculating and analyzing rainfall data, catchment area, and total incoming water debit so that the obtained optimal sump dimension. From the results of the research, total discharge entering into the mining area of 2,228.65 m3/day with rainfall of 56.28 mm/day and the catchment area of 183,583.76 m2. Sump is designed to be trapezoidal with dimension of length and width of sump surface is 28 m, length and width of sump base is 18 m, and with depth 5 m. The required sump volume is 2,770 m3. Pump that is used remains with the old pump that is one unit of the deeflo pump model DP2500-2 with the pump working hours increased to 21 hours/day.
