Abstract

One of the mangrove areas in the East Coast of South Sumatra is the area of Payung Island located in Muara Sungai Musi. Various industrial activities in the Musi River, might impact to the musi estuarine including mangrove area of Payung Island. One of the incoming pollutant components is heavy metals. This study aims to analyze the concentration of heavy metals zinc (Zn) and lead (Pb) on sediment , root and mangrove A. alba leaves. This research was conducted in january 2018 in Payung Island mangrove area, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera Province. Sediment samples was taken by using paralon pipe as much as ± 500 gram. Pencil root from the top of the substrate was taken much as 50 gr and leaf samples taken as ± 30 leaves. The method for heavy metal analyze was Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). Zn concentration of sediment ranged from 13.35 to 22.61 mg/kg and sediment Pb concentration ranged from 0.14 to 3.17 mg/kg. This condition was still in quality standard level of SEPA (2000), ANZECC (2000) and EPA (2017). Zn concentration at roots ranged from 0.45 to 4.95 mg/kg and leaf Zn concentration ranged from 2.46 to 12,76 mg/kg while Pb on root and leaves was not detected. The value of BCF roots ranged from 0.15 to 0.24 and leaf BCF ranged from 0.30 to 0.59 indicated that mangrove A. alba in Payung Island as moderate accumulator plants category (0.1-1). TF values ranged from 1.69 to 2.47 indicated that plants could transmit heavy metals effectively
