Abstract

Wind is an environmentally friendly renewable energy source. Wind energy is flexible energy because it can be applied everywhere in the sloping areas, plateaus and sea. Wind energy is also a natural resource that can be obtained free of charge (for free) in abundant quantities and is available continuously throughout the year. Considering the relatively low wind conditions in Indonesia, the vertical type PLTB is claimed to be able to rotate in these wind conditions. In this study the authors make and design a vertical prototype PLTB and vary the pitch angle of the turbine. Testing of this prototype uses wind speeds of 2 m/s – 4 m/s originating from artificial sources. In testing this prototype using 6 blades with a blade length of 40 cm and pitch angles of 40°, 60°, and 80°. From the results of research conducted the maximum voltage and current values are found at a pitch angle of 40° by 18.02 Volts with a current of 0.0064 A and also produces a maximum rotation speed of 71.5 rpm with a pitch angle of 40° at a speed of 4 m/s with using a 3 watt lamp.
