Abstract
Background: Binahong plant (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) leaves contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, trepenoids, and ascorbic acid which have antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the phytochemical content and antioxidant activity of binahong leaf infusion. Method: This research is an experimental study by conducting antioxidant testing on the leaves of binahong plant (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) infusion that was divided into group of concentration and tested for its antioxidant activity with DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhidrazyl) free radicals, then the absorbance was measured using spectrophotometer at 520 nm wavelength. From the spectrophotometric results, the values of % inhibition and IC50 were calculated using a linear regression test, and vitamin C as a positive control. Results: The result of phytochemical test shows that the infusion of binahong leaf contains alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. From the antioxidant test of binahong leaf infusion, IC50 value of 1,649 ppm is obtained which is classified as very strong
