Abstract

Background : Lahat Regency is one of the highest malaria counts in South Sumatra Province in 2017. Bungamas Health Center is a Health Center located in East Kikim District. Lahat District has the highest malaria incidence after Puskesmas Pagar Gunung. There were 54 cases in 2017 and 50 cases in 2018 in the working area of the Bungamas Kikim Timur Health Center. The purpose of this study was to analyze the environmental conditions of residents' homes: the existence of a Resting Place, Stagnant Water and Animal Husbandry, socioeconomic: income, and preventive practices: the habit of going out at night, the habit of using mosquito repellent, the use of wire netting in house ventilation and habit of hanging clothes. Method : This research is a quantitative study using case-control study. The sampling technique in this study was carried out by the Random Sampling System (SRS) technique with a sample ratio of 1: 2, a total sample of 102, consisting of 34 cases and 68 controls, the case group was malaria sufferers in the Bungamas Community Health Center working area in 2018 while the control group was a disease sufferer others went to the Bungamas Community Health Center in 2018. Data analysis was performed univariate and bivariate using the chi-square test. Result : Bivariate results show there is a relationship between the presence of standing water (p-value = 0.038; OR = 3.372), the presence of cattle pens (p-value = 0.038; OR = 2.648), the habit of using mosquito repellent (p-value = 0.034; OR = 2,850), and the habit of hanging clothes (p-value = 0.009; OR = 8.3364). There is no relationship between the presence of a resting place potencial (p-value = 0.930; OR = 1,120), the habit of going out at night (p-value = 0.565; OR = 1.326), the use of wire netting in house ventilation (p-value = 0.818 ; OR = 1.241) and income (p-value = 0.407; OR = 0.626). Conclusion : The incidence of malaria in the working area of the bungamas health center is classified as high influenced by the presence of standing water, cattle pens, habit of using mosquito repellent and hanging clothes. The role of the government, health services and the community is urgently needed to improve community prevention measures against malaria so as to reduce the incidence of malaria in the working area of the Bungamas Kikim Timur Lahat Health Centre.
