Abstract
Distribution systems for Gemini feeders often occur due to lightning strikes. Trips caused by lightning can cause transient overvoltages. Transient overvoltages can damage components and equipment in the distribution system. This study aims to simulate overvoltages that may occur in the Gemini feeder distribution system and evaluate the optimal LA installation location so that the impact of overvoltages caused by lightning strikes on the Gemini feeder distribution system can be reduced. In this study, a lightning strike simulation was conducted on the distribution network of Gemini rayon feeders in Lembayung, Lahat district. The results of this study indicate that the optimization of the arrester installation has been obtained can be seen from the response of the average value of the peak overvoltage that arises in the transformer before installing the arresters for phase a, phase b, and phase c respectively 197 kV, 91.5 kV, 101 kV. After the installation of arresters for phase a, phase b, and phase c respectively 34.6 kV, 24.33 kV, and 10.83 kV. There is a decrease in the overvoltage arising after the installation of the arrester.
