Abstract

South Sumatra Museum workers are more at risk of exposure to safety and health hazards because a lot of collection conservations and the least of workers. The purpose of this study was to identify occupational safety and health risk management process in collection conservation at South Sumatra Museum. This type of research is qualitative research. The research instrument used HIRARC tables, observation guidelines and in-depth interviews. The results of this study reveal the risks of hazards which are categorized as physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and psychosocial hazards, risk assessment is categorized as low, high and very high risk and risk control based on hierarchy of control. It can be conclude that the most foundy hazards are physical hazards, very high risks are falling from height and exposure to sprays on the walls of Rumah Limas, exposure to paraffin in maintenance of wood carving collections, exposure to white oil and teepol in rust removal and cleaning of molds in metal-based collections, exposure to noise in maintenance of biological collection (animal offsets), plunged into a pond, knocked and scratched by a stone statue in maintenance of a stone collection, cut, crushed and injured due to carpentry equipment, collided, crushed and tripped over wood in lighting settings at Exhibition Building III and hit the pillars and floors of Rumah Limas on spraying the pole and floor of Rumah Limas and the risk control recommended are substitution, engineering, administrative control and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Suggestions of this research are to repair damaged facilities, add sinks, showers, eye washers, fire extinguishers, fire alarms and sprinklers, preventive maintenance and training for workers.
