Abstract

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is one of the Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders caused by compression of the median nerve of the wrist and causing pain in the joints. In Indonesia, the prevalence of joint disease in 2018 is 7.3% with the proportion of injuries as 9.2%, especially in the upper limbs as much as 32.7% and the prevalence of injuries as much as 9.1% occur in the workplace. In South Sumatra the prevalence of joint disease was 6.48% with the proportion of injuries as much as 7.37% in the upper limbs as much as 37.22% and the proportion of injuries as much as 23.97% occurred in the workplace. CTS can be experienced by workers who use the power of their hands in their work. PT Tunas Baru Lampung Palembang Branch is one company that still uses human labor, especially in the process of packing soap and vermicelli. The purpose of this study was to analyze repetitive movements, wrist posture, age, disease history, body mass index, and years of service on CTS complaints. This study used a cross sectional study with a sample of 65 people. Data analysis was performed univariate and bivariate using the chi-square test and fisher exact alternative test. Analysis of CTS complaints with questionnaires and Phalen's tests on packing employees ie experiencing CTS complaints (61.5%) and not experiencing CTS complaints (38.5%). Bivariate results showed a relationship between repetitive movements (p-value = 0.024), age (p-value = 0.022), BMI (pvalue = 0.031), and years of service (p-value = 0.024). There was no relationship between wrist posture (p-value = 0.373) and history of disease (p-value = 0.510). CTS complaints are still relatively high, it is influenced by repetitive motion factors, age, BMI, and years of service. Actions that can be carried out independently by workers include stretching, massaging, and acupressure massage to prevent the severity and alleviate complaints of CTS to packing workers in vermicelli and soap factories PT. Tunas Baru Lampung Palembang Branch.
