Abstract

Background: Dental caries is still one of the general cronically problem for the children and adults, even this it mostly could be prevented. One of the factors that influence of dental caries is race. In particular race, those who have narrow jaw cause place to grow the teeth on the less jaw, so the teeth grows often irregularly. Irregularity of teeth will complicate the cleansing of the teeth and it will increase the percentage of caries. Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of caries severity in twelve-year-old children in Arab with Chinese ethnic (study cross sectional at SD Adabiyah and SD Xaverius 4 Palembang). Material and Method: This study was an observational analytic with a cross-sectional study design and using sampling methods were purposive sampling. This study consisted of 60 samples (30 Arabic ethnics at SD Adabiyah and 30 Chinese ethnics at SD Xaverius 4 Palembang), age in twelve-year-old. . Data were analyzed using chi-square test. Result: There were significantly different (p<0.05) caries severity in twelve-year-old children in Arab with Chinese ethnic at SD Adabiyah and SD Xaverius 4 Palembang. DMFT index in children of Arab ethnic was higher than Chinese ethnic which was 3,76 (moderate), DMFT index in the children of Chinese ethnic was 2,5 (low). Conclusion: There were difference of caries severity in twelve-year-old children in Arab with Chinese ethnic (study cross sectional at SD Adabiyah and SD Xaverius 4 Palembang).
