Abstract

Electric motors are expected to have good and efficient features. One of the ways to make it own such features is to modify some parts of the electric motor both on the stator or rotor. In this research, the researcher modified the DC motor anchors (rotor) to get good and efficient features. The modification also changed the material of the anchor from silicon steel to pure iron. The modification method was by changing the angle of the DC motor anchor groove from 90° (straight) to a slope angle of 30° to the right. The modification was also done by cutting the anchor length to ¼ of its normal size. The test was carried out using a load. The modification result of DC motor tests for speed (RPM) and torque at a maximum voltage of 120 volts for DC motors modified anchor with 30° to the right angle and modified anchor to ¼ its normal size shows higher rotational speed (RPM) values than normal DC motors with the RPM magnitude of 2145 RPM and 2325 RPM. However, the normal DC motors have an RPM value of 1535 RPM. Then, the torque of the DC motor modified anchor with 30° to right and modified anchor length to ¼ of its normal size is smaller than normal DC motors with 6,6627 Nm and 8,1364 Nm. Meanwhile, for normal DC, it reaches 10,0085 Nm. Based on the test result, it can be seen that a normal DC motor has a smaller rotational speed (RPM) value and a higher torque value than DC motors modified anchor with 30° to the right and modified anchor length to ¼ of its normal size.
