Abstract

Dye Sensitized Solar Cell is one of solar cells that is able to convert solar energy into electrical energy. One of the factors that influence DSSC performance is dye. Dye with high chlorophyll content is able to transfer more electrons to obtain a better electrical performance. In this research, dye was obtained through the MAE or Microwave Assisted Extraction. This research aimed to determine the DSSC performance by using dye extracted from some MAE treatments. The research was conducted in November 2019 until January 2020, at the Energy Electrification Laboratory and Agricultural Product Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya. This research included: assembling the DSSC sandwich structure, applying dye and electrolyte solution, measuring and processing of DSSC data. The TCO glass in this research had a resistance between 0.5 kΩ to 16.6 kΩ. The DSSC performance was measured after the application of varied extraction times of dye in MAE method (0.5; 1; 1.5; 2; 2.5; 3; 3.5; 4; 4.5 and 5 minute(s)). The parameters that were observed included chlorophyll content of the dye, current and voltage, power, fill factor, and DSSC efficiency. The highest value of electrical performance was also found in DSSC C with the extraction time of 1.5 minutes, V_max = 405 mV, I_max=0.0117 mA,P_max = 4.7385 mW, FF = 0,3768, and efficiency = 3.08%. The highest chlorophyll content was in DSSC C namely = 2.91 mg/L.
