Abstract
Alloy 800 is used in the Outlet bottom header (OMBH) manifold component inside the primary reformer at Pupuk Sriwidjaja Company. This component has been operating at high temperatures and pressures for a long time. Due to the long operation process, there is a decrease in mechanical properties and weldability in the 800 alloy material. The heat treatment has an influence on the weldability and mechanical properties of a material. This study was conducted to analyze the influence of the heat treatment with solution annealing and normalizing method to the weldability of alloy 800. The analysis carried out by the series of tests which include XRF testing, dye penetrant testing, weldability testing, hardness testing, XRD testing and metallography testing. In the weldability test, it refers to the standards made by manoir industries. Weldability test results before the heat treatment is carried out there are indications of cracks that appear due to the influence of the welding heat on the surface. After the annealing and normalizing solution process, the weldability test results showed a significant reduction in cracks on the surface. The reduction of the occurrence of crack based on the existence of residual stress changes as a result of the heat treatment process shown by the shift in the peak in the XRD test results. The hardness test results showed an increase in the value of hardness in the fusion zone due to the addition of new alloying elements from the filler rod. The observations made using an optical microscope show the indication of crack in the results of weldability test is a micro crack derived from the amount of residual stress so that it affects voids to connect to each other. The results of the study stated that the effect of annealing and normalizing solutions can reduce the residual stress significantly so that the indication of crack after the weldability test is reduced.
