Abstract
ABSTRACT: Infectious diseases such as diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria become a problem because in the use of antibiotics that are widespread and improperly can cause resistance properties, so it is necessary to search for new antibacterial compounds by utilizing plants that are antibacterial. One of them is Senduduk plants (Melastoma malabathricum L). This study aims to determine fraction that have antibacterial activity of senduduk leaves, obtain antibacterial compounds, compounds groups, and determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of compounds from the active fraction of senduduk leaf extract in bacteria E. coli and S. aureus. Antibacterial activity test and determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) by agar diffusion method. The test bacteria used were E. coli and S. aureus. The results showed that the active fraction of the Senduduk leaves methanol extract was the ethyl acetate fraction and the methanol fraction. The active compound group which has antibacterial activity in the ethyl acetate fraction isolate E7.22 is the flavonoid compound with Rf value of 0.53 cm and isolate E11 is tannin compound with Rf value of 0.4 cm. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of active compound of ethyl acetate fraction of Senduduk leaves isolate E7.22 and E11 in E. coli and S. aureus at concentration of 500 μg / ml classified as having moderate antibacterial compounds.
