Abstract

The research of students' higher order thinking skills profile on Biology content in state high schools in Ilir Timur II, Palembang aims to see the profile of students in completing national exam questions in the HOTS category. The method used in this research is descriptive method with the type of qualitative research. This research was conducted on February 2020. The research was carried out in SMA Negeri 5 Palembang and SMA Negeri 18 Palembang. Determination of the sample using simple random sampling technique. Data collection instruments were written multiple choice test questions taken from the 2008-2019 national exam questions and interviews. The results showed that the students' higher order thinking skills profile on Biology content in State High Schools in Ilir Timur II Palembang District was still in the inadequate category. This is evidenced from the average results obtained from each topic used in the research problem which only reached 3.38 (cells), 2.11 (plant tissue), 2.24 (animal tissue), 2.30 (skeletal system), 3.20 (circulatory system), 3.29 (digestive system), 2.92 (respiratory system), 3.96 (excretion system), 3.27 (coordination system), 2.98 (reproductive system) and 1.93 (immune system). Based on the topic used, the excretion system is the topic with the highest value of 3.96 students who can answer the questions correctly and the topic of the immune system is the lowest value of 1.93 students who can answer the questions correctly.
