Abstract
This research aims to (1) To identify the phenomenon of changes in rice production, incoming and outgoing rice as rice availability variables in South Sumatra, (2) To analyze the response to rice availability as a function of demand for planting area at the farmer level in South Sumatra, and (3) To analyze the elasticity velue of planting area as a function of supply at the farm in South Sumatra. This research was conducted in South Sumatera. Site selesction is purposive. Data collection was conducted in August 2019 to October 2019. The research method used in this study is the case study research. Data were obtained through from related institutions or agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture in South Sumatera Province, the Central Bereau of Statistics and food security Agency South Sumatera. The results showed that (1) Within a period of 15 years, from 2003 to 2018, South Sumatra rice production increased by an average of 6.35 percent. As for the availability of rice, the average value of 1 percent has increased and the area of planting in South Sumatra tends to increase by an average of 3.66 percent, (2) The availability of South Sumatra rice significantly influences the total area of farmers planted in South Sumatera, and (3) The value of short-term and long-term supply elasticity for the availability of South Sumatra rice is 1,30 for the short term and 2,13 for the long term. In the short term and long term supply elasticity is elastic.
