Abstract

Roads and intersections are important elements in structuring a city as a transportation infrastructure for connecting between regions. One of the intersections in Palembang called Macan Lindungan Intersection is an intersection of four, which based on the type of traffic flow connected by two major roads and two minor roads. Within the intersections there is one major road, the Soekarno-Hatta National Road that connects the city center with cross-city traffic or towards to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport. The large volume of vehicles that pass this road often causes traffic congestion at certain times. The main cause of congestion is due to the capacity of the road which is not able to accommodate the increased volume of vehicles that pass, so the number of degrees of saturation becomes high and resulting slow and congested traffic performance. In order to overcome these problems, this study aims to provide the best scenario proposals to reduce the intensity of congestion in the future. The method used in the study to analyze the performance of road sections is the 1997 Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI). MKJI 1997 was used as a basic calculation for initial road capacity values and road capacity in the 3 scenarios to be proposed. The three scenarios include widening the existing road lane, regulating land use around the road, and moving vehicles to the toll road. The results of the calculation of these three scenarios show that the third scenario is the best scenario to propose, where the degree of saturation in that scenario produces a safe number below 0.8 for the next 15 years. The results of the capacity calculation of the Macan Lindungan Intersection with the help of curves shows that the use of signalized intersections cannot be used anymore and should be replaced with uneven intersections.
