Abstract

Introduction: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine and metabolic disorders in reproductive-aged women. PCOS is a group of symptoms, such as amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, infertility, obesity, hirsutism, acne, alopecia, and achanthosis nigricans. There are 4-18% females around the world who have PCOS. PCOS causes 5-10% reproductive-aged women become infertility. Therefore, this study was conducted to find out the relationship between PCOS and infertility. Method: This study used analytic observasional method with cross-sectional design. Samples are taken from secondary data at Dr. dr. Rizani Amran Sp.OG(K) private practice on period august 2014-july 2017. Sampling technique used is consecutive sampling. The data is analyzed using Chi-square test. Results: From 249 patients (79,6%) with PCOS, 77,8% amenorrhea/oligomenorrhea, 92,2% obese, 99% hirsutism, and 89,6% infertile. Chi-square test showed that p value = 0,000 (p-value < 5%) and PR value = 8,572. Conclusion: There is significant relationship between PCOS and infertility. Patients with PCOS have an 8,572 times higher risk for infertility than those patients without PCOS.
