Abstract

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are biological vectors of Dengue virus that cause Dengue High Fever (DHF). Larvicide is used to stop the spread of Aedes aegypti by killing its larva. Natural larvicide is chosen because it’s more environmentally friendly and less likely to be resistant than synthetic larvicide. Ethanolic extract of sweet potato leaves contains saponin, tanin, and flavonoid that can be used as larvicide. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of ethanolic extract of sweet potato leaves as a natural larvicide to kill Aedes aegypti mosquito instar I and III. This research type design is experiment with post test only with control group design where there arefive treatment groups and two control groups, each group contains 25 Aedes aegypti larva and repeated three times. The result of this research showed the value of the LC50 of first instar was 595.33 ppm and the value of the LC99 was 2573.98 ppm. The value of LC50 of third instar was 751,04 ppm and the value of LC99 was 1719.75 ppm. The value of LT50 of first instar on 600 ppm was 1349.88 minutes and 163121.49 minutes for LT99. The value of LT50 of third instar on 1500 ppm was 339.19 minutes and 919.82 minutes for LT99. Ethanolic extract of sweet potato had an activity as a natural larvicide according to WHO’s standard with the value of LC under 10000 ppm and the value of LT under 72 hours.
