Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever disease is from Dengue virus that enter the human body by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The common preventive is by using Abate® larvicide to kill these mosquitoes’ larva. However, long periods of time can cause the larva to become resistant so it is needed to use a natural larvicide that is safer than the synthetic one. One of the plants that has the potential as a natural larvacide is Kirinyuh stem. The purpose of this research is to determine the effectivity of ethanolic extract of the Kirinyuh stem as a natural larvicide to Aedes aegypti’s larva 1st and 3rd instar. The method of this research is Post test only with control group design with two control groups and five experimental groups with 1500, 1750, 2000, 2250, and 2500 ppm concentration. The determination of water and ethanol soluble extractive substance was 60% and 73,3%, determination of moisture content and loss on drying content was 0,96% and 0,95%, and determination of total ash content and acid insoluble ash content was 0,104% and 0,04%. The result of this research showed that the LC50 value of first instar and third instar was 1621.81 ppm and 1479.11 ppm and the LC99 value of first instar and third instar was 2089.30 ppm and 2238.72 ppm. The value of the fastest LT50 and LT99 first instar on 2500 ppm was 151.36 minutes and 588.84 minutes. The value of the fastest LT50 and LT99 third instar on 2500 ppm on 186.21 minutes and 870.96 minutes. These results mean that ethanolic extract of the Kirinyuh stem had larvicidal activity and can be used as an alternative larvicide.
