Abstract

Carbopol use as gelling agent with a better physical characteristic compared to the others gelling agent. This study aimed to determine the effect of concentration variations of carbopol on the characteristic of dexamethasone ethosomal gel. Ethosome is a drug delivery system of nanoparticles with dexamethasone as the active ingredients. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid used as an anti-inflammatory. Ethosome of dexamethasone particle morphology using TEM (transmission electron microscopy) procured the size particle of nanometer which is 200 nm. Formulation of dexamethasone ethosomal gel using carbopol with concentration variations of 0,5% (F1), 1% (F2), and 2% (F3). Determination concentration variations of carbopol to get the optimized formulation gel is done by characterizing the organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, dispersion, adhesion, protection, washability, viscosity and stability. The optimized formulation carbopol with concentration of 1%. The result from formula 2 showed the characteristic and requirements of gel are better than the other formula. This study need a further research for the activity of anti-inflammatory dexamethasone ethosomal gel.
