Abstract

The use of a single-phase induction motor type running capacitor is widely used in daily needs such as water pumps, one of the problems that often occurs is a lack of optimization of the performance of an induction motor and frequent capacitor damage occurs in a single phase induction motor, with this it is necessary to conduct research to achieve this. Optimizing the work of an induction motor, the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of adding a capacitor on the efficiency of a single phase induction motor and seeing from the simulink matlab application simulation, this research uses a single phase induction motor running capacitor, the research was carried out on an experiment of lock rotor and motor without load, given the addition of a capacitor with 10 additional experiments starting from a single phase motor with a 12 μf capacitor obtained an efficiency value of 68.54% until finally with the addition of 5 μf the efficiency value was 74.45%, in the addition of 6 μf to 9 μf the efficiency decreased. From the results of these studies, it can be seen that adding a capacitor up to 5 μf on a single phase induction motor can increase the value of efficiency, power, rotational speed and also the power factor is getting better.
