Abstract

Moon flower is one of the Asteraceae family, moon flower extract contains phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins and terpenoids having very strong antioxidant activity because it has an IC50 value of 14.57 μg / ml. This research discusses the active substances that have antioxidant activity, class composition and IC50 values ​​of active compounds of the moon flower. The reresearch was conducted from October 2019 to March 2020 with the sampling location located in Timbangan Village office, North Indralaya Sub-distric, Ogan Ilir Distric, South Sumatera. The method used is extraction, fractionation, vacuum liquid chromatograph (VLC), column chromatography, thin layer chromatography (TLC), mixed classification and IC50 measurements with DPPH method. The results of this study showed that the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fractions had a strong antioxidant activity compared to the water methanol fraction seen from the yellow patches formed on the TLC plate. The n-hexane fraction obtained 4 subfractions and the ethyl acetate fraction obtained 6 active subfractions. The results of the purification of the compounds obtained by 4 active compound isolates namely isolate N.5 are terpenoid group compounds, isolate E.4 classified as tannin compounds, isolate E.5 group of flavonoid compounds and E.7 group of phenol compounds. The results of the activity showed that N.5 isolate had an IC50 value of 86.63 μg / ml with antioxidant activity classified as strong. Isolates E.4, E.5 and E.7 respectively had IC50 of 127.66 μg / ml, 113.57 μg / ml and 126.68 μg / ml with moderate antioxidant activity. The conclusion of this study is the fraction of n-hexane and ethyl acetate of the moon flower [Tithonia diversifolia (Hemsley) A. Gray] contains contributions of terpenoids, tannins, flavonoids and phenols with antioxidant activity classified as moderate and strong.
