Abstract

Adolescent preferences greatly affect street food consumption. Eating street food that is high in carbohydrates, high in fat, and high in protein can cause ongoing overweight to become obese and can increase the risk of degenerative diseases. This research was an analytic observational study with cross sectional design. The research sample of 167 SMA Xaverius 1 Palembang Adolescent in 2019. The sampling technique is simple random sampling. Data analysis techniques are univariate and bivariate. The results showed that 55.7% of adolescents have a high preference for street food. The highest street food preference was pempek at 58.1%. The results of the analysis of the relationship between variables using the chi square test showed that gender (p-value = 0.543), peer influence (p-value = 0.046), food familiarity (p-value = 0.0001), nutritional knowledge (p-value = 0.655), allowance (p-value = 0.040), taste assessment (p-value = 0.033), texture assessment (p-value = 0.026), color assessment (p-value = 0.907), and shape assessment (p- value = 0.087) and online media exposure (p-value = 0.026). it can be concluded that the influence of peers, food familiarity, pocket money, taste assessment, texture assessment, and online media exposure are related to street food preferences. While gender, nutritional knowledge, color assessment, and shape assessment have no relationship with street food preferences. For this reason, interventions from various parties are needed to control street food preferences in adolescents so that they can consume health and nutritious street food according to the needs of these adolescents.
