Abstract

The objective of this research aimed to determine the pancasila values contained in upa-upa traditions in Batak Toba traditional marriage (case study : Bukit village, Betung District, Banyuasin regency). This research used a qualitative method as the research method. The total subject or informants in this study were 11 people. Data collection used documentation, interview, and observation techniques. The validity test of the data used includes the credibility test, the tranferbility test, the dependability test and the confirmability test. Data reduction, data presentation and presentation of conclusions were applied to analyse the data. Based on the result of analysis and discussion of research result, it can be concluded that there are pancasila values contained in the upa-upa tradition in Batak Toba marriage in Bukit village, Betung district, Banyuasin regency namely, divinity values, human values, social values and community values. The divinity values in the upa-upa tradition can be seen from the reciting Prayers by the Hula-hula and giving the boras sipir ni tondi on the head of the bride by the family of the female bride. Furtermore, the human values in the upa-upa tradition can be seen from the upa-upa traditions prepared and given by the hula-hula where the hula-hula in the Batak tradition are one of the life philosophies in Batak community dalihan natolu, next social values can be seen in the tradition of upa-upa which is followed by the head of persadaan marga and the bride's siblings. There is also cimmunity values that can be seen by giving tumpak to the groom to help with the cost of the wedding party.
