Abstract

Fuel oil has pushed the industry to trun to coal as an energy source, one example is the Steam Power Plan Industry.the residual of the coal combustion will produce fly ash and bottom ash, one coal combustion process can produces about 80% fly ash and the rest is the bottom ash which is 20%. Where the waste is B3 waste (toxic and dangerous material) , the main components of fly ash and bottom ash coalfrom power plants are silica (SiO2), alumina (Al2O3) and iron oxide (Fe2O3),the rest are carbon, calcium, magnesiumand sulfur. Silica is one of the components in coal combustion ash. Where silica it self is widely used in refining vegetable oils, pharmaceutical products, detergent. Manufacture of paints, rubber and ceremics. Therefore it is necessary to examine silica from fly ash and bottom ash waste, the examination is done by extracting fly ash and bottom ash waste by the acidic method using NaOH solution. Then do the testing of variations in the concentration of H2SO4 solution , namely 4N,6N,8N and 10N so that it can be seen which concentration produces silica with high purity, then the characteristics of silica will examined with XRF. With exctraction using the silica acid method obtained 92% fly ash at a concentration of 6N and 50,23% bottom ash at a concentration of 6N. characteristic test on XRF silica shows fly ash extraction produced 68,46% silica content and on bottom ash extraction its containing silica at 87,82%.
