Abstract

A research about carbon dots electrodes prepared from binchotan and their application in supercapacitors has been conducted. Supercapacitors were made based on combining two electrodes, where the electrode was made from a mixture of CDs with graphite and binders. The CDs were prepared from binchotan of pelawan wood using an electrochemical method. The electrolysis were done for 24 hours and then sonified for 2 hours. The electrolysis was carried out by using variations of electrolyte types, i.e, sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and sodium nitrate (NaNO3), electrolyte concentration and applied voltage. The crystal of CDs was characterized using XRD. The presence of crystalline was marked by the presence of peak in certain angle on diffractogram. The diffractogram result showed that the peak appeared at 2θ was 26.88o for NaNO3 electrolysis of carbon and 24.43o for H2SO4. Particle size analysis was done by particle size analyzer (PSA). The results of the analysis showed that the carbon particle size was 705.2 nm of NaNO3 electrolysis and 694.6 nm of H2SO4. The supercapacitor performance were measured by using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charging discharging method. The results of cyclic voltammetry revealed that the highest energy and power values were 0.052 mWh and 4.1 mW and capacitance value reached 20 mF. The galvanostatic charging discharging measurement showed that the best stabilization was found on CDs electrolyzed using NaNO3 electrolite at concentration, voltage, and graphite-CDs ratio were 4M, 18V, 3:7 respectively.
