Abstract

The research of synthesis and characterization composite of Fe3O4 with silica from rice husk and application for methylene blue adsorption has been done. Rice husk has been extracted to produced silica powder, then magnetite nanoparticles was composited by silica. The magnetite-silica composites was characterized used XRD, VSM and SEM-EDS. The XRD characterization results showed a sharp intensity peak at 2θ = 35.35°. The magnetization saturation value of composite magnetite-silica was 21.50 emu/g. The SEM – EDS result of composite magnetite-silica showed an irregular spherical form and tight pores with composition elements Si (3.50%), O (15.37%) and Fe (81.13%). The optimum adsorption magnetite-silica composite (1:1) to methylene blue dyes was carried out on 60 minutes contact time at pH 8, concentration in 75 mg/L with adsorption capability 60.190 mg/g. The adsorption composite silica-magnetite according to pseudo second order kinetic models had a correlative coefficient value (R2) = 0.9999 and Langmuir isotherm adsorption.
