Abstract
Abstract Hepatitis A occurs sporadically throughout the world, with a tendency to repeat epidemic cycles. Indonesia is a country with hepatitis endemic status. At the end of 2019 starting in September the incidence of hepatitis A occurred in South Sumatra Province, namely Ogan Ilir District, there were 305 cases of hepatitis A. There were 279 patients reported in the UPT Sriwjaya University Clinic, including 262 patients from among Sriwijaya University students residing in Indralaya precisely in the dead-end alley and lampung alley and the remaining 17 sufferers from the general public. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of hepatitis A in Sriwijaya University students. This research is a quantitative study using case control design. In the sample using a random sample sampling method. The sample in this study was 61 students (using a ratio of 1: 1) who fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria. There are 3 variables related to the incidence of hepatitis A, namely knowledge (p-value = 0,012), drinking water treatment (p-value = 0,048), and snack habits (p-value = 0,014). There are variables that are not related to the incidence of hepatitis A, namely personal hygiene variables (p-value = 0,790 and 0,194), and environmental sanitation variables (p-value = 0,575). There is one confounding variable which is the raw food consumption variable. In this study the most dominant variable related to the incidence of hepatitis A in Sriwijaya University students was the snack habit variable with an OR value of 7,535 after being controlled by environmental sanitation variables and personal hygiene variables. That is, students with a frequency of snacks more than 3 times a week have 7 times the risk of developing hepatitis A compared to students who are not at risk. The results of this study are expected to be a basis for increasing knowledge and education in the spread of hepatitis A to Sriwijaya University students in the future.
