Abstract

Hypertension is a state when blood pressure in the blood vessels increased abnormal. If left in a long time hypertension can interfere vital organs other so as to trigger stroke, heart attack, heart failure and cronic renal failure. This research is to analyze the relationship between habitual coffee consumtion with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in the aromantai village working area in the jarai Public Health Center Lahat District. This research is a quantitative research by using the design of cross sectional. The data used is secondary data obtained from the Departemen of Health Lahat District and Public Health Center of Jarai and primary data obtained from interview and charging questionnaire. This research using the method of sample random sampling in the sample. The population in this study is a group of elderly aged 45-59 years. Samples in this study is a elderly aged 45-59 years appropriate criteria inclusion and exclusion criteria as many as 161 respondents. Data were analyzed by univariate, bivariate and multivariate. The result showed from 161 respondent there are 96 (59,6 %) elderly suffer hypertension and 65 (40,4 %) elderly not suffer hypertension. Teh resulth bivariate analysis showed there are significant relationship between habitual coffee consumtion (p=0,014), long coffee of drinking coffee(p=0,039) and physical actiivty (p=0,028) with the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in the Aromantai village in Public Health Center of Jarai in the Lahat City. But were no significant relationship between the type of coffee, the number of coffee and smoking with events hypertension on the elderly in the Public Health of Jarai In the Lahat District. On the multivariate analysis are the relationship between habutual coffee consumtion with the hypertension after control og the variables long coffee, smoking habits and physical activity ( p value 0,040; PR= 2,174; 95 % CI = 1,038-4,554). The need for hypertension prevention measure such controlling and regularly checking blood pressure, recude even get rid of smoking habits and do regular physical activity.
