Abstract

Modification of Ni/Al layered double hydroxide and biochar has produced Ni/Al-biochar layered double hydroxide composite material and has been proven using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), Thermogravimetric-Differential Thermal Analysis (TG-DTA), Brunauer Emmet Teller (BET) Surface area dan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. Determination of the optimum pH of Ni/Al-biochar layered double hydroxide composite material at pH 4. The material is applied as a methylene blue adsorbent which is carried out in various variations of time, temperature and concentration. Observation of the adsorption kinetics parameters showed that the Ni / Al-biochar double layer hydroxy composite material followed the pseudo second order kinetics model and the adsorption rate of the Ni/Al-biochar layered double hydroxide composite as a methylene blue dye adsorbent followed the pseudo second order kinetics model with a k2 value of 0.083 , 0.057, 0.015 and 0.009 g/mg min. Freundlich adsorption isotherm is more suitable in the adsorption process of methylene blue dye with a Ni/Al-biochar layered double hydroxide composite adsorbent with a maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) of 61.728 mg/g. Thermodynamic parameters indicate that the adsorption reaction occurs endothermic and spontaneously. Ni/Al-biochar layered double hydroxide composite were desorbed using acetone as solvent with a %desorption of 1.699%. The Ni/Al-biochar layered double hydroxide composite are regenerated to show the ability of the adsorbent to absorb methylene blue dye.
