Abstract

Target strength is the ability in describing a target to reverse waves that hit an object. The purpose of this research is to measure the target strength of Gray Eel-Catfish in controlled conditions by using cages and to analyze the relationship between the target strength and fish size. Acoustic data recording used in this research was the Biosonic DT-X Scientific Echosounder with frequency 200 kHz as controlled by using cage. The target strength measurement was done using the Tethered Method by hanging the dead fish using a monofilament rope. The results of the recording data were processed by using Echoview 5.4 Software. The target strength value of Gray Eel-Catfish that was obtained has range from -65.3 dB to -58.2 dB with fish length range from 39 cm to 56 cm. The average of target strength in eight Gray Eel-Catfish samples are -62.06 dB with an average total fish length is 43.95 cm. Based on the linear regression equation, the results of the regression equation is y = 27.285x - 107.85 with a R2 value of 0.4. The formula result for target strength value of Gray Eel-Catfish is TS = 20 Log L - 95.91
