Abstract

The existence of a retention pond does not only function as a means of flood control, but can improve the aesthetic function of the retention pond by designing a garden. This study aims to design the Talang Aman Retention Pond Garden as a green open space that functions as a means of recreation, socialization and sports in Palembang City. The research was carried out from April to August 2019. The research method used was field observation which included consultation with the Public Housing and Settlement Areas as the owner by asking for the location of the research plan, inventory, analysis, concept synthesis, planning and design, consultation with users , design refinement and design finalization. The results of the design research are in the form of designs that are presented in the form of 2D, 3D images, and a video display of the design concept uploaded on YouTube. The design concept applied is a tropical garden with various types of tree plants with wide crowns and several trees with flowers such as ketapang kencana (Terminalia mantaly), bungur (Lagerstroemia speciosa), cempaka telur (Magnolia lilifera) and kamboja jepang (Adenium sp.), Hedges or borders in the form of pucuk merah (Syzygium myrtifolium) and bunga sepatu (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L.), as well as shrubs in the form of tapak dara (Catharanthus roseus L.) tahi ayam (Lantana camara). The facilities presented in this design are a gazebo, children playground, outdoor gym, park benches, and a food court. The circulation path in the garden design is a jogging track that surrounds the park.
