Abstract

Inflammation accompanied by pain indicates tissue damage caused by various stimuli. Jengkol leaves (Archidendron jiringa) contain several secondary metabolits which were allegedly efficacious as an anti-inflammatory. This research is aimed to know the characteristics of the extract and the ability of jengkol leaf ethanol extract to reduce the edema volume of the soles of the feet’s rat. Antiinflammatory testing in this research was based on the rat paw edema method or the formation of artificial inflammation carried out by injecting 1% of carrageenan as much as 0,2ml in the soles of the animal testing. Animal test are divided into five groups, which are the negative control group was given 0,5% Na CMC, the positive control group was given diclofenac Na suspension, and the ethanol extract of jengkol leaves treatment group dose 200, 400, 800 mg/kgBB orally, 30 minutes after rat treatment induced carrageenan. Edema volume measurement is done every 30 minutes for 3 hours using a pletismometer. Data on percent inflammation and percent inflammation inhibition were analyzed using one way ANOVA test. The characterization results showed that the ethanol extract of jengkol leaves met the standarization requirements. The results showed that ethanol extract of jengkol leaves doses 400 and 800 mg/kgBB have no significant difference with positive control (p>0,05), it can be concluded that ethanol extract with variations of these doses had anti-inflammatory potential. Based on the relationship between the percentage of inflammation inhibition againts extract dose, ED50 value of jengkol leaf ethanol extract obtained was 610,94 mg/kgBB.
