Abstract

Stunting is an indicator of chronic nutritional status that illustrates stunted growth due to long-term malnutrition. Prevalence of stunting in toddlers in 2018 in Indonesia 30.8% and in Lahat Regency 48.1%. The purpose of this research to find out the incidence and risk factors for stunting in toddlers aged 24 - 59 months at Merapi Health Center 1 Lahat Regency. This study uses a cross sectional design. The sample in this study amounted to 79 toddlers. The sampling technique uses simple random sampling. Data collection method in this research was conducted by interview through a questionnaire. Univariate results showed that 22.8% of children under five years old at Merapi Health Center 1 Lahat District experienced stunting. The results of multivariate analysis found that the variables related to the incidence of stunting in infants at Merapi Health Center 1 in Lahat Regency were Birth Length (p-value = 0.0016) and Infection Disease History (p-value = 0.006) where Birth Length was a counfounding variable after controlling for the Birth Weight variable with a PR value of 2.969 (95% CI 0.107 - 1.24) and an early breastfeeding initiation variable with a PR value of 1.088 (95% CI 0.754 - 11.701). Unrelated variables in this study were exclusive breastfeeding variables, early breastfeeding initiation, LBW history, gender, parenting and family income. Because in Lahat District has a high prevalence of stunting, it is recommended for the puskesmas to optimize programs related to preventing and reducing the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Lahat Regency.
