Abstract

This thesis discuss about the result of breakdown stress on insulation material (SiR) with added filler of SiO2. The addition filler of SiO2 to insulation material (SiR) intended to increase dielectric strength for insulation material against voltage stress. The concentration of SiO2 which given to insulation material is about 1 %. 2% and 3% SiO2 of total weight sample. Sample were made in sheet form with a thickness of 1 mm, and Sample size is about 5 x 5 cm2. This research was tested in needle-plate electrode configuration. PDIV measurement begins by adjusting the gap between needle electrode and sample by 1 mm. The voltage regulator within High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) was used to adjusting the voltage increase rate of 100 Volt/second until Partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV) occurs. And then the measurement of breakdown voltage is carried out by increasing the voltage until a complete breakdown occurs. The result showed the highest increase in PDIV and VBD value is at concentration 2 % SiO2 which is respectively 18,221 % and 11,2 % or the PDIV and VBD values increased by 0.4399 kV and 0.3959 kV. Concentration 2% SiO2 is the point where the increase in PDIV and VBD values reach its optimum value. This is shown by a decrease in PDIV and VBD value when the concentration is increased to 3% SiO2. So it can be said that if the concentration of filler was added beyond the saturation limit, the SiR performance will tend to decrease. The decrease in the ability to withstand voltage stress can be caused due to reduced composition of the main ingredient (SiR) and the SiO2 filler which cannot be mixed properly.
