Abstract
This study was conducted to obtain the characteristics of the breakdown stress characteristics of high density polyethylene (HDPE) polymer insulation materials by variation of the bending with long treatment time. Tests carried out on samples shaped dumbbells with a thickness of 2.0 mm and measuring 150 x 20 mm2 . Bending treatment with variation of bending angle ∠60 °; ∠90 °; ∠120 °; ∠150 ° for 48, 96, 144, 192, 240 hours. Measurement of the breakdown strength sample to withstand stress is carried out using a needle-plane electrode with an alternating high voltage in the gap between the sample surface and the electrode tip of 1.0 mm. The average value of the breakdown voltage at each variation of the bending angle ∠60°; ∠90°; ∠120°; ∠150° at 7,178 kV; 7,590 kV; 7,991 kV; 8,471 kV and the average value of breakdown voltage on each long treatment time-bending 48, 96, 144, 192, 240 hours at 7,902 kV; 7,756 kV; 7,851 kV; 7,846 kV; 7,683 kV When there is an increase in voltage, there is a decrease in the insulation resistance of HDPE samples that have experienced mechanical stress. This results in a reduction in the dielectric strength of the HDPE material l. In this study, there is a decrease in breakdown voltage in the sample bent at ∠60° which is 1.7 kV or about 19.15% compared to the sample without being mechanical stress treatment on its surface.
