Abstract
This study aims to determine how much influence the electrode movement has on the tensile strength and how much influence the welding current has on the tensile strength of low carbon steel. The method used is experimental research with the aim of knowing the cause and effect based on the treatment given. This study uses SMAW welding with zigzag electrode motion and spiral grooves and currents for welding using currents of 70 amperes, 80 amperes and 90 amperes and seam V electrodes used type E7018 diameter 3.2mm and the material to be welded is low carbon steel. . The data analysis used was a comparative descriptive method. The results of data analysis show that based on the calculation of the tensile strength in each specimen that the difference in moving the electrodes can affect the tensile strength value of low carbon steel, the highest tensile strength value is in the spiral electrode movement 40.43 kgf / mm2, while the lowest electrode movement value is in the electrode movement zigzag 29.48 kgf / mm2 and the welding current also affects the value of the tensile strength of the current, the higher the current, the higher the tensile strength value.
