Abstract

This thesis reports the results of a study to obtain the characteristics of the penetrating strength of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and Silicon Rubber (SiR) insulation materials which are arranged in layers and then treated using Diala B which aims to compare the value of discharge stresses between samples that are "treated B ”between the isolating interfaces, with the“ unplugged ”B on the interface, of the layered stack. In this study, the measurement of Partial Discharge Inception Voltage (PDIV) and Complete Breakdown Voltage (VBD) was carried out on insulation material which is layered with Diala B liquid insulation material and solid insulation material. namely SiR in sheet form, with a thickness of 1000 µm, and LDPE in sheet form with a thickness of 10 µm, 45 µm, 85 µm respectively. Each sample is made in sizes 50 x 50 mm. The test was carried out using a needle-plate electrode system with the applied voltage, namely alternating high voltage. The alternating high voltage applied to the needle electrodes will form a non-homogeneous electric field with a high field density. Based on the relationship between the field strength E and the applied stress, as well as the thickness of the insulation media composition, it is necessary to have a larger application voltage so that the initial discharge can occur. The experimental results show that the thicker the insulating material, the higher the stress for discharge or for complete penetration. Providing a filler in the form of liquid diala B (transformer oil) in the gap between solid insulation (SiR and LDPE) arranged in a multilayer manner can increase the ability of the insulation arrangement to withstand stress from stress compared to the arrangement of insulating material that is not filled with diala B between solid insulation. However, the risk of a flashover is very likely to occur because of the air gap that enters when combining SiR samples, Transformer oil, and LDPE.
